It was an interesting experience, that week or so without Internet, and I came to one very interesting realization.
I realized how easily accessible information is with the Internet. Usually when I find something that I don’t know, I write it down on a sticky note, be it digital or physical, or just copy and paste it into my search bar. In a matter of seconds I have veritable libraries of information on that topic. Every day I go through that process and as I move along, I collect little bits of information. Learning anything is just so easy.
And then I thought, what if one person in a rural area had a computer with Internet access, what could they do? They could share it with their community, and learn about any variety of topics. That one person could share better health practices or schooling topics with their community, or they could share their own story with the world. Maybe they could learn about opportunities for their children, to give them chances for a better life. Or they could learn about opportunities for themselves. The knowledge they learn could be passed on and on, from one person to the next.
(Right now this is just a thought. I’ll expand on it a little later.)
